Everybody has their favorite kind of cookie and these are by far my husband's. You can pretty much always find a bag of the Betty Crocker ones in my pantry. Man, for the $2 they cost, they're incredible for a bag mix. But today was Father’s Day and that calls for them to be made with love and from scratch. It’s also a great way for me and Drew to spend some quality time in the kitchen doing something nice for daddy since he does so much for us. And let's face it, it's also a good excuse to eat raw cookie dough. We shouldn’t lick the bowl but we always do. Isn’t that part of the fun of making homemade cookies? Honestly, if either one of us ever got salmonella I’ve never forgive myself but it’s just irresistible. That batter calls our names every single time. These cookies turn out so good and I love the way they make my house smell. I’m a big fan of oatmeal raisin cookies. They make me feel like I made a healthy choice but when you swap chocolate chips for the raisins something magical happens to them. They're great alone or with a couple of scoops of ice cream on top.
NOTE: I make the following modifications to the recipe. I make sure my eggs are at room temperature, only use 1/2 teaspoon salt and 3/4 cup chocolate chips, omit the walnuts, and add a pinch of cinnamon.
