Ole Smoky Mango Habanero Mule

JUMP TO RECIPE

We discovered this fantastic cocktail the last time we were home visiting my family in PA.  We’d taken my parents to Rachel’s Roadhouse for dinner, one of the only restaurants that exist in the area I grew up.  Yes, I grew up in a small country town.  I hadn’t been to this restaurant in years, but it was always one of my favorites.  We sat down, and there was a cocktail menu on the table.  They had the typical choices, but then I read, “Ole Smoky Mango Habanero Mule.”  What?! I love mules, I love whiskey, and I love mangos.  The twist with habanero had me so intrigued.  I had to order one.  My dad did too.  The waitress brought them to the table in the traditional copper mug with a fun mango slice for garnish.  It was pleasing to the eye, and then my dad and I tasted our first sip.  Forgive my French, but DAMN that was good!  The mango is sweet going in.  It smells divine.  And then you get the heat from the habanero on the back end.  This mule is phenomenal, and yes, we both ordered a second round.  I knew when we got home, I had to recreate my own rendition.

I had never heard of Ole Smoky before, but I’m so excited to be introduced to this brand.  They have a ton of tasty whisky, moonshine, and other canned cocktails. Check them out when you get a chance.  My local liquor store was kind enough to special order it in for me.  In the meantime, grab a mug, start pouring, and enjoy this tasty mule!

A must-try mule! The mango is sweet going in, but don't let that fool you. Be prepared for a strong kick of heat from the habanero on the back end. My new favorite mule!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Ole Smoky Mango Habanero Whiskey
  • 6 ounces ginger beer, I like Goslings
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 dried mango slice, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Pour whiskey and ginger beer into a mug.  Add ice cubes.  Stir to combine.
  2. Add mango slice for garnish.

Notes:

A classic mule is served in a copper mug, but a mason jar or any unique glass is fun too.
