La Maison du Gruyere

Gruyere 4.jpg
Ever wonder where Gruyere cheese is made? In this amazing cheese factory in Gruyere, Switzerland, of course! The aging room pictured above, with rows and rows of cheese, was the most impressive and beautiful to see. A symmetrical work of food art. Being a cheese lover, I was drooling. I could live on cheese. Give me a charcuterie board every day for lunch or dinner, and you won’t hear me complaining. Throw in some fig spread and some truffled honey (which both go well with just about any cheese), and you’ve made a friend for life. Being that gruyere is one of my (and on a long list of) favorite cheeses, I found it fascinating to see how it was made and aged. We ended our tour with lunch at le Restaurant de la Maison du Gruyere which is right onsite. Where they had many selections on the menu, mac and cheese was the obvious choice, and I love how they plated it in a miniature wooden barrel and Swiss flag. Speaking of charcuterie boards, what do you like to put on yours? Send me an email. I'm always looking for different ideas. When we were in AZ, Kurt's cousin had dark chocolate on her board, something I wouldn't normally think of, but it was such a nice addition. My staple board usually includes: three different types of cheese (which I love buying from Trader Joes, because they have an amazing selection at incredible prices), a couple different meats like pepperoni, salami, and prosciutto, grapes, two kinds of gluten free crackers (but the good ones that no one can tell they're GF), and last but not least, fig spread and truffle honey.
